To find out more about our services, please visit our new Web site at www.santedentairelarose.comThe automatic toothbrush is more effective The health of our patients' gums improved dramatically after they switched from a manual toothbrush to an automatic one with a small round head. Not only does the automatic toothbrush work faster, it also reaches in deeper between the teeth and under the gum line, dislodging bacteria responsible for tooth and gum infection. Simply run the brush slowly along both the inside and outside of your teeth at the gum line. Your teeth will tingle, just like they do after a professional cleaning! A great idea for a gift! Tooth grinding: try minerals Do you have children or a spouse who grind their teeth so badly you can't sleep? Certain minerals that make the body more alkaline should be taken at bedtime. These can be found in a cup of warm milk, a handful of almonds or a multimineral citrate supplement. It is also important to correct the cause of the acidity, whether it is related to lack of sleep, excessive stress, refined foods, or other causes. The result will be a good night’s sleep for everyone! A barrier against tooth decay Do you wish to go a step further in protecting your children's teeth against cavities? Deep grooves on the top of their back teeth may cause these teeth to be less resistant to bacterial acids. By cleaning these grooves thoroughly, then sealing them off with an invisible plastic layer called a pit and fissure sealant, we can prevent the onset of cavities without the use of anaesthetic. This makes much more sense than letting cavities grow and then having to repair them with fillings. The best toothpaste We recommend toothpaste that does not contain fluoride or sodium lauryl sulfate or (SLS) – a foaming agent found to be responsible for ulcers that appear in the mouths of many people. Tooth and Gum Paste is an excellent choice – although its taste may be a bit strong for children. You will find other acceptable brands such as Auromer, Vogel, Homeofresh or Nature‘s Gate in health food stores. Or you can prepare your own toothpaste by mixing a bit of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) with a few drops of hydrogen peroxide just before brushing. Make sure you brush your tongue every time you brush your teeth. It harbours bacteria and debris that can cause bad breath. X-ray protection In order to diagnose cavities and dental infections, we sometimes need to take X-rays of your mouth. When X-rays are used sparingly, the body can tolerate them. However, to protect yourself against the negative effects of ionizing radiation, we recommend you take two to three grams of vitamin C with two grams of aged garlic (Kyolic) some time during the 24-hour period following X-rays. Sugar reduces your tolerance for infection A study conducted at Loma Linda University demonstrates how the efficiency of bacteria-fighting cells is reduced by ingesting foods containing sugar:
And we wonder why we get infections! Reminders in the mail At the end of your cleaning appointment, the hygienist asks you to fill out a small postcard with your name and address. This card is then mailed to you approximately one month before your next appointment with the hygienist. As soon as you receive this reminder, please call our receptionist to confirm your appointment. Should the time and date no longer be convenient, we will be glad to find a more convenient time for you. Thank you for making it easier for us to take good care of you! Whiter teeth? Since you have only one life to live, why not live it with "white teeth"? A new home bleaching technology now makes it possible for you to whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home, gradually and safely. We can provide you with a customized tray and a special whitening gel that will brighten your smile in a week or two―while you sleep! And the results will last for years. Amalgam and Alzheimer's disease Researchers and toxicologists at a recent scientific meeting in Chicago were dismayed to learn of a relationship between dental amalgam and the onset of Alzheimer's disease. The first sign of the disease is a loss of the sense of smell. During autopsies, researchers found large concentrations of mercury in the olfactive bulb of Alzheimer victims. Mercury is the only toxin known to cause both of the hallmark signs of the disease: amyloid plaques and neurofibrillar tangles in the brain. For over 75 years, mercury vapour from amalgam has been known to reach the brain through the sinuses. Alzheimer's disease appears prematurely in people who have been exposed to mercury and who are genetically predisposed to the disease. There is no doubt that dental amalgams constitute a permanent risk factor for disease. We feel it is our duty to keep you up-to-date on the most recent scientific developments in health-related issues. You, and you alone, can decide whether to keep your amalgam fillings or have them safely removed and replaced. |
