TMJ AND NUTRITION

20% of the population suffers from symptoms related to Temporo-Mandibular Joint dysfunction: headaches, tinnitus, neck and back pain, dizziness, clenching, hearing problems. The treatment is usually mechanical, chemical or psychological.; rarely is nutrition used

The stress of unresolved conflicts and a bad bite are usually what cause the symptoms. But how do we increase our resistance to stress? By giving our bodies the foods it needs to defend itself against stress and rebuild damaged tissues. As Dr. Albert Schweizer said: "The good doctor helps awaken the ‘doctor within’".

A nourishing breakfast with protein is the basis of increased resistance and sound nutrition. Starting a day without protein is like going downtown with an empty gas tank, with the promise of a fill-up! Your body transforms during sleep; in the morning, it needs building materials to replace old damaged cells. Protein is required in the morning, not cereal!

Have eggs, meat, fish, cheese,etc. And if you cannot eat breakfast,, perhaps you can drink one: an egg beaten in milk, whey powder in fruit juice or fresh fruit in a blender. We also recommend avoiding refined sugar and caffeine.

And which nutritional supplements do we recommend?

Multi-mineral citrates or chelates – to buffer acids brought on by stress and relax the muscles.

Vitamin –B Complex – stressbreakers.

Co-enzyme Q10 –gives energy required for healing.

Omega-3 fatty acids – anti-inflammatory.

Vitamin C – (2000 mg/day) anti-inflammatory and of rebuilding connective tissue.

Glucosamine sulfate – for joint health.
